My website is a clear multimodal text because of its use of visual and linguistic mode. The green mountain image backdrop and adventurous page images capture my adventurous and outdoorsy side. Plus, I like pictures of mountains. They have a calm energy that comes from their slow, yet powerful growth. The linguistic features are limited to my name and navig
ation directions. The contact page allows people to email me; while the “About me” page will eventually say something about me using written text. This blog will hopefully have posts that combine all five modes of communication.
My Facebook newsfeed uses many of the five modes of communication. Written posts are many linguistic. Other people post pictures that are visual or memes that use both visual and linguistic. The occasional video adds aural and gestural communications. The feed is also in a linear, chronological use of spatial mode.
The Writer/Designer text is first and foremost a linguistic text with the spatial providing organization. Visually, it adds images for use as examples or case studies as well as different colors for headings. It also has an online component that adds the aural and gestural, although I have not visited the site.
